OVERVIEW

This one day masterclass is being held in a boutique setting and provides a more intimate opportunity for participants to watch and learn from the founder of CFT, Professor Paul Gilbert (OBE) who is visiting Australia from the UK and is providing this training opportunity in Brisbane with Dr Hayley Quinn.

The masterclass will provide an opportunity to see CFT in action and to engage in practice and group discussion. Psychotherapy always involves two minds and this masterclass will look at psychotherapy as an interaction. It will provide learning opportunities through a mixture of interactive teaching, practical exercises, self-reflection and group discussions.

The emphasis on this workshop is to observe role/real plays as a group, engage in personal skill development and engage in discussion regarding the processes of CFT interventions.

Participants should be prepared to:

 - Engage in activities where they will practice clinical skills, especially role-plays.

- Bring clinical material for discussion

- Engage in reflective processes and discussion of their own internal processes and fears. blocks and resistances with each other and the group

There will also be opportunities for a few participants to volunteer to participate in a role/real play with Paul for a live demonstration for participants.

WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES

To enable participants to further understand and practice:

 - CFT forms of guided discovery

- Working with emotional conflicts

- Different ways of working with self-criticism

- Working with shame and resistances

- Explore one's own inner process when engaging in different therapeutic difficulties

Dr Hayley D Quinn

Dr Hayley Quinn PhD is an experienced Clinical Psychologist and the current President of Compassionate Mind Australia. Hayley runs her own private clinical practice, with a particular focus on Compassion Focused Therapy. Hayley has a particular interest in assisting people experiencing anxiety, trauma related issues, chronic pain, and grief and loss. Hayley has worked in various settings including community, multicultural and hospital-based settings. Hayley's previous work facilitating a day program within a specialised trauma unit allowed her to deepen her understanding of the harmful impacts of fear, shame and loss of connection, and to clarify the important role of compassion when working with clients. Hayley is passionate about the role of personal practice in assisting clinicians to cultivate a caring orientation to suffering within themselves and others. She believes that supporting clinicians to incorporate compassion focused practice into their lives and work increases their capacity for caring, courage and wisdom.
